Karen Taguet was born in France, Berlin-based classical indian dancer Karen Taguet started to learn european classical ballet and acrobatic dance in France at the tender age of seven under the tutelage of the internationally acclaimed acrobatic dance duo Mrs Piat and Mr. Naudy.
She came to Berlin (Germany) in 1990 and began to study classical indian dance in 1994 under the guidance of Mrs Rajyashree Ramesh, Berlin-based Bharatanatyam dancer and choreographer.
She travelled many times to India and got the opportunity to learn further with the reknown Bharatanatyam dance teachers Savitri Jagannatha Rao, Padmini Ravi, Vasundhara Doraiswamy and Padmini Rao.
She made her dance debut in 1997 and since then performed in many dance festivals all over Germany, in Switzerland, India and Croatia. As a solist in the dance ensemble of Rajyashree Ramesh, she took part in different fusion dance projects including other dance forms like flamenco, modern dance-ballet, body-theater or Balinese dance. Karen is very interested in asian martial arts and she has been practicing Karate and Kendo for many years.
To deepen her knowledge of the indian classical music, she is also learning mridangam, the south indian percussion instrument, under the guidance of Mridangam Maestro S.V. Giridhara from Bangalore.
During a performance by the reknown Odissi dancer Aruna Mohanty in Berlin, Karen fell in love with the classical music and dance of Orissa. She attended several workshops on Odissi dance in Berlin conducted by Mrs. Kavitha Dwibedi from New Dehli and since 2001 she is travelling regularly to India to learn Odissi under the tutelage of Mrs Aruna Mohanty from Bhubaneswar.
