Sunanda Banerjee started learning Odissi dance at the early age of 8 under the tutelage of her Guru Smt. Madhavi Mudgal, one of the foremost exponents of the art form. Apart from being a regular student of her guru, she has had the privilege of having attended workshops conducted by Late Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra in Delhi. She is a graduate in Arts from Delhi University and holds a ‘Visharad’ in Odissi dance from Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal, Mumbai. She is a recipient of scholarships awarded by C.C.R.T. (Centre for Cultural Resources and Training) in 1995 and Senior scholarship awarded by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India in 2003.
Her international performances, as a part of her Guru’s troupe include Lyon Biennale Festival, France, I.C.C.R. Sponsored shows in Vietnam, Laos and Kathmandu, Nepal. She performed in Paris, at the famous Theatre de la Ville and in the cities of Martigues and Nantes. She has also performed in Germany and Belgium. A keen interest in this art form instigates her to learn the finer details of this dance style and pursue her chosen art form with devotion and hard work.
